Summary
The Computer History Museum in Mountain View, CA, is recruiting a Chief Financial Officer to join a largely new management team in shaping the future of the institution.
The Museum has the world's leading collection of computers and computing hardware, software, documentation and computing-related ephemera. It has raised $83 million against a goal of $125 million in capital and operating funds and will open a landmark "Timeline of Computing History" to the public in 2009. It has a staff of 50 and operates in a highly modern 120,000 sq. ft. facility on 7.5 acres in the heart of Silicon Valley. Its trustees, donors and members are among the leaders and innovators in the computing and software industries, and its public programs are widely varied and cutting edge in the fields of computing, history and technology.
Responsibilities
This is a hands-on management position. You will report to the President and CEO and be a key part of the Museum's senior management team. You will be responsible for the financial and fiscal management of the Museum. Your duties will include leading and performing financial planning, budgeting, management accounting, risk management, tax planning, audit preparation and compliance; and managing treasury functions and banking relationships. You will ensure that records are kept in accordance with GAAP and generally accepted auditing standards. You will support the rest of the senior management team, and the trustees, by preparing timely and accurate management reports, including statements of cash flow and expenses, balance sheets and various financial analyses as required. The Museum is installing a new Financial Edge management and reporting system, and you will be knowledgeable both in the installation and high-performance use of such a system.
You will also play a large strategic role. Scenario planning, data analysis and forecasting will be significant. You will manage and train, as necessary, an experienced financial and accounting staff, and will shape the future direction and expansion of the department.Qualifications
To be successful, you will have 7 to 10 years of senior-level experience, a significant and demonstrated track record in financial management, a collaborative working style and the requisite education (MBA preferred). You must be a clear communicator, be adaptable to the requirements of non-profit accounting and compliance, and have excellent planning skills. Experience in a non-profit setting is helpful but not required. Exceptional candidates seeking a part-time schedule will be considered.
