Ford Motor Company, Aeronautic Division

The Ford Aeronutronic Division (later Ford Aerospace Division) got its start in computers by acquiring the Philco Computer Division (established in 1958 and makers of the Philco Transac S-2000, one of the very first transistorized computers, and several other large machines).

With this background, it is not surprising that the Ford people were large users of Philco computers and that they did research into computer memory devices. Today the Ford group is part of Loral Space Systems.
