Hitachi, Ltd.

Hitachi, founded in 1910, is a very large Japanese engineering firm. They completed their first transistorized electronic computer in 1959. Their computer division has been used to support their other facilities, e.g., making the computer controls for their Japanese bullet train system.

In 1989 they developed what was, at the time, the world’s fastest supercomputer based on superconductive technologies. They remain involved in all types of computer developments from electronic circuits to optical data transmission and high density storage facilities. They remain a major supplier of computers to both the scientific and business markets.
