Underwood Corporation

Underwood Corporation produced its first typewriter in 1901. In 1952, Underwood acquired the American assets of the British Powers-Samas company that produced punched card tabulating equipment. This gave them a reason to be interested in the management use of computers and, a year later, they purchased the Elecom Computer firm (Electronic Computer Corp).

Underwood took over the Elecom line of machines and then later developed other small, business oriented, equipment. In 1955 Underwood computer assets were purchased by Olivetti.
