The Deep Thought II chess machine was developed by Carnegie Mellon University graduates Murray Campbell, Feng-Hsiung Hsu, and Andreas Nowatzyk at IBM. Deep Thought II contained innovative new software that optimized the coefficients of the scoring function, ran on a Sun-4 workstation and included two customized VLSI chess processors.
