Description:
Murray Campbell programmed Deep Blue's evaluation function, the component of Deep Blue that assessed the value of the current position. He also worked closely with International Grandmaster Joel Benjamin to develop Deep Blue's opening book. In May 1997, IBM supercomputer Deep Blue played World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov winning the six-game rematch 3.5-2.5. Deep Blue thus became the first computer system to defeat a reigning world champion in a match under standard chess tournament time controls.
