Description:

Carnegie Mellon University's Hitech custom chess computer won the tournament, followed by Deep Thought. Mephisto X took third place. Mephisto's chess program was developed by Richard Lang. In 1990 Mephisto beat world champion Anatoly Karpov in a simultaneous exhibition in Munich. That same year it won the German blitz championship and earned an International Master rating.
