Description
A four color brochure for the Ferranti Mercury Computer. The cover is laminated. The background of the front cover is an enlarged picture of the Mercury Computer's magnetic core. A smaller version of this image is included on the first page, along with an explanation of the magnetic core. On pages 2 and 3, there is an introduction to the Ferranti Mercury Computer. The name "Donald G. McBrien" is stamped on this page. Subsections of the brochure include "3 sound reasons why an organisation would benefit by using a Ferranti Mercury Computer;" "The Main Features of the Ferranti Mercury Computer;" and "Some applications of Ferranti Computers." The main features of the Mercury Computer are its speed of operation, floating-point representation of numbers, magnetic core computing store, magnetic drum backing store, input and output, internal checking, and the order code. An artist's rendering of the "typical Mercury installation" is included on pages 5 and 6. Pictures accompany the listing of applications for Ferranti computers: dam construction, cotton spinning, aircraft design, whirling of shafts, wages computation, and weather forecasting. The back cover features a listing of Ferranti's locations.
