Description

John T. (Jack) Gilmore got his first programming experience on the MIT Whirlwind computer while a student at MIT. He became a staff member and wrote input/output programs for the light gun and light pen that later became popular on PDP-1 and SAGE. He enlisted in the Navy and became a carrier based pilot. After his enlistment ended he returned to Lincoln Labs and programmed I/O routines for the TX-0 and TX-2. He subsequently left and joined Charles Adams Associates. There he was instrumental in using his expertise to provide multi-user shared computer service to a variety of customers. He became president of Keydata Corporation a subsidiary of Charles Adams. Keydata provided information and computer expertise to stockbrokers. He moved to Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) as manager for word processing products and later as a competitive analysis consultant. He retired from DEC in 1992 and has used his experience in management analysis to continue as a consultant.
