Hans Queisser, who earned a PhD in Germany, discusses his career in the U.S. semiconductor industry, starting with Shockley Labs in the late 1950s. At Shockley Labs, Queisser worked on silicon solar cells under a contract for the U.S. Air Force and later he was involved in developing the Shockley 4-layer diode. In this interview Quiesser also recounts what it was like to work for William Shockley and discusses the lost opportunities for the European semiconductor industry.
