Description
Joesph "Joe" Costello obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and Physics from Harvey Mudd College and Master's Degrees in Physics from Yale University and the University of California, Berkeley. He joined National Semiconductor after graduating and worked in speech synthesis and speech recognition. In 1984 he joined a computer aided design (CAD) company called SDA Systems, which had been founded by his former supervisor at National, Jim Solomon. Costello was appointed president of SDA systems in 1986 and two years later was instrumental in merging SDA with ECAD to form a new company, Cadence Design Systems. Shortly after, Costello was named CEO of Cadence and served in that capacity until his retirement from the company in 1997. During his tenure at Cadence Costello oversaw a number of EDA acquisitions including Tangent, Gateway and Valid Logic, and introduced new business models for the EDA industry.
