Description
John Squires was the co-founder and chief engineer of Conner Peripherals, at its time in the early 1990s the fastest growing company in the history of commerce. John, a native of Australia, began his career with StorageTek Corp and then worked at MiniScribe before co-founding Conner. Although he has a degree in Physics, John’s experiences in engineering were primarily in firmware programming (micro-programming), which he applied to the Conner products using firmware to substantially reduce the complexity and cost of the Conner products. As chief engineer he introduced the concept of platform design, whereby Conner regularly and simultaneously introduced multiple products based in a common platform (e.g., 2½-inch, 3½-inch full height and 3½-inch half height drives having a common platform).
