Description

Records of the author’s testing of propagation delay and output switching waveforms of logic devices under various fan-out, capacitive load and transmission line impedances. Includes numerous Polaroid photos, hand-drawn graphs, and impedance coordinate charts pasted into the book. The outline of an application note “Design considerations for high speed digital logic signal transmission” is stapled into page 20. Some notes regarding phone conversations with customer engineers at NSA and Control Data.

Biographical Notes

Richard (Dick) E. Bohn received a B.S., M.E. (1958) and an M.S. (1960) from the Russ College of Engineering and Technology at Ohio University. As a circuit designer with the Sylvania Electronic Products semiconductor division in Woburn, Massachusetts, with T. Longo, he co-authored a 1963 introductory paper on SUHL (Sylvania Universal High level Logic), the first commercial family of TTL ICs. He joined Fairchild in 1964 where he worked with Robert (Bob) Seeds to design the 930 Series DTL circuits that became the industry standard logic family until surpassed by TTL in the late 1960s. Circa 1969 he recruited H.T. Chua to join him at Intel where they designed the company’s first commercial product, the 3101 64-bit memory chip. In the mid-1970s he worked for Transitron Electronic Corporation in Wakefield, Massachusetts.
