Description

The first entry (p. 5) lists a number of items of “possible interest” recorded in his lab notebook (not in the CHM collection). Many ideas are expressed in brief 3 to 5 line notes throughout the book. Idea for lead glass bonding layer signed by Moore and Last (p. 6). Much of the work described in the latter half of the book is related anodic oxidation projects, see conversations with E. Duffek (p.50 and 54); growth in aqueous solutions (p. 52); and experiments seeking source of “glow” during anodization of silicon (p. 72-87) (see TR157). A copy of the formal project plan for anodic oxidization written by Waring is pasted in the Duffek (191) (p. 4).

Waring, G. Worden

Biographical Notes

G. Worden Waring was born in 1915. He received a B.Chem. from Cornell University (1936) and a Ph.D. degree in chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A member of the Electronics and Photonics activities of the Electrochemical Society since 1955, he joined Fairchild circa 1959. In 1962 he was manger of the Chemistry Section responsible for three major areas of research: 1) electrochemical effects in silicon and electroplating; 2) physics and chemistry occurring at the surface of semiconductor materials; and 3) technology of glasses and ceramic materials. He died in 2006.
