Dr. Paul Gray is Professor Emeritus of the University of California at Berkeley, where he taught in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS). Dr. Gray specialized in analog integrated circuits, about which he co-authored a classic textbook, "Analysis and Design of Analog Integrated Circuits." Additionally, Dr. Gray served as the Chairman of the EECS department, the Dean of the College of Engineering, and the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost at UC Berkeley. Dr. Gray received his Bachelor’s, Master's and PhD degrees from the University of Arizona. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the IEEE, and the recipient of numerous other professional awards.In this interview, conducted July 15, 2013 at the Computer History Museum, Dr. Gray discusses how he got into electrical engineering, his time working at Intel and Fairchild, the switch to MOS transistors from bipolar in integrated circuits, and the state of engineering education, among other topics.
