Description

One Williams-Kilburn tube memory unit (holding two CRT tubes) from the engineering prototype of the IBM 701 (actually IBM Type 706 Electrostatic Memory Unit). Each unit holds 2 type IBM Model 85 3-inch cathode ray tubes, which were specially designed for Williams-Kilburn storage use.
Although the magnetic shields for the CRTs are installed, the actual CRTs have been removed. See Accession Number 102626872 for an actual tube.
