Curator Notes

When originally patented in 1936, the Dvorak arrangement of keys--based on letter frequency in English--promised to reduce operator fatigue. However, by the time keyboards became popular for computer input, people were too accustomed to the familiar QWERTY keyboard layout to change their ways, rendering the Dvorak keyboard a footnote to history.
