Description

This is a black and white image of US Army engineers, Pfc Homer Spence and Cpl Irwin Goldstein, setting up switches for the portable function table for the ENIAC. Cpl Goldstein is on the left side of the image and bending down with his left hand on a dial. Pfc Spence is on the left edge of the image and is holding a piece of paper. The function table has several rows of dials. Blue text on paper on verso side reads "Picture 14 Pfc Homer Spence and Cpl Irwin Goldstein, the maintenance engineers, setting the switches on a portable function table. Note the associated panels on the ENIAC itself to which the table is connected by means of the pair of cables encased in flexible bronze tubes.". Written on small white round label in pencil on original protective sleeve was "1108-4".
