The object is a paper tape reader with tape handling mechanism on the front of an otherwise rectangular box. The right side of the front is a simple bin to contain paper tape (probably fan-folded). It has a door which is opened via a push button at the top for loading the tape from the right side. The left side contains the paper tape read mechanism. The bottom of the mechanism provides a track to guide the tape, with width adjustment via two four position knobs with detents. The positions are labeled on the knobs with: 5, 7, 8, OL. The track also contains a rubber drive wheel to move the tape and an optical sensor with a 2 by 9 array of sensors for reading the holes in the tape. Above the track is a movable gate which the machine can lower to hold the tape in place. It provides are pair of spring-loaded wheels to serve as the pressure roller against the drive wheel. It also contains a lens to distribute light from an internal source to illuminate the read sensors. There are four control buttons along the bottom edge labeled: RESET, READ, SKIP, UP . The right side of the back of the box is a large air filter. Along the bottom of the back of the box from left to right are: two interface connectors, an OEM nameplate, a power connector socket, an on-off switch, a fuse . The nameplate has the logo and name for the Regnecentralen OEM. Below the name on the nameplate is "Scandinavian Information Processing System" in red.
