Description

B&W image of the IBM SSEC . It is the phogograph with building suppport columns airbrushed out for publicity purposes. It shows a man on right in front of large racks of vacuum tubes. In the center rear is a woman in front of the console. To the left is a man in front of more components . All components have glass doors. In front center is a card reader. To the rear are large paper tape readers.
Verso: " IBM SELECTIVE SEQUENCE ELECTRONIC CALCULATOR, which combines for the first time electronic speed, vast memory capacity, and highly flexible and conveninent programming or sequencing facilities . It provides for greater latitude than has been possible heretofore in manipulating numbers and carrying on mathematical operations. Because it is a general purpose machine, all fields of physical science both pure and applied and also the social sciences will benefit from its exceptional versatility and efficiency.
