Description

This video presents volume visualization, rendering and image processing techniques being developed by Pixar in the late 1980s. In addition to a technical discussion of the Pixar Image Computer's capabilities, the video also focuses on the practical applications of these techniques in meteorology, chemistry, physics, and biological sciences. Data sets from NASA Ames Laboratory, Stanford University, PDA Engineering and Philips Medical Systems are used to render the images shown. The video ends with a demonstration of the "first complete volume reconstruction of an animal [a sea otter]," created using 300 CT scans.
