Object is a plastic vial containing about 30 small metal brushes. These are the sensing brushes that make contact through the punched holes in IBM cards to read them. IBM card-handling equipment such as sorters, collators etc. have banks of these brushes. An IBM maintenance tech would typically have a vial such as this in his tool case to make frequent replacements of worn brushes.
