This object is a thin, vertically mounted plug-in module that consists of a front panel and a metal sheet that covers the entire right side of the module. The circuit board is mounted with the circuit side of the board toward this cover. The entire component side of the board is covered with active and passive components, integrated circuits of many different sizes, jumper blocks with jumpers, a small toroidal inductor, and one crystal (20.000000 MHz). The back of the module is open and supports a pair of 96 contact female connectors. The front of the module is a panel which supports the following hardware from top to bottom: 30 small status LEDs, an 8P8C modular jack labeled "MDIX," a small hole labeled "Channel Reset" that provides access to a button mounted on the circuit board, a 50-pin mini ribbon female connector labeled "Ports 13-24," and a second 50-pin mini ribbon female connector labeled "Ports 1-12." Each of these connectors includes two strips of Velcro approximately 2.5 in long. Captive screws at the top and bottom of the front panel hold the module in place, and a plastic lever at the bottom is provided to aid in extracting the module.
