Description

This oral history chronicles the many lives, moves, accomplishments, and disappointments of a very birght scientist and engineer. After earning a BS at MIT and a PhD at UC Berkeley, Dr. Rohrer set out on an amazing journey of creativity and invention. He often alternated between spending a year or two at one of 8 universities and then another year or two with one of many startups or more established companies he found interesting…. and even a venture capital firm! In the later part of his career, he teamed up with his wife to offer technical, marketing, management and investment counsel to the companies they worked with.

On a purely technical level, he counts four major contributions. The first is circuit simulation, which he began while teaching at Berkeley. The second and third were his contributions to noise analysis and RC extraction for integrated circuits. The fourth was the role he played in launching the career of Aart De Geus, whose work in synthesis lead to the creation of the world’s largest EDA company. Ron’s not done yet. He feels he has one or more ideas still circulating that may pop out and make an impact in the future.
