This Kano computer kit is the result of one of the most lucratively financed Kickstarter campaigns to date. The campaign kicked off in November of 2013 and when it concluded a month later, the initial goal of $100,000 was well surpassed – nearly $1.5 million had been raised.
For $99 funders received a kit from the first manufacturing run, which included a Raspberry Pi single board computer, a wireless keyboard with a built-in touchpad, a speaker, cables, a case, and Wi-Fi ready hardware. Kano’s founders intended for the device to allow users to build their own computers from the ground up and learn basic coding. While the makers of the Raspberry Pi had similar goals, the Kano team felt their product would be easier to use and would be able to better engage novice coders.
