Description

This bumper sticker was distributed by Rhino Records during the height of the Napster MP3 file-sharing controversy. It reads, “NAPSTER? NOPESTER! Because Lexuses don’t grow on trees. A public service announcement from Rhino Records.” Founded in 1999, Napster facilitated peer-to-file file sharing, but did not physically host any of the MP3 files on its servers. Still, musicians received no compensation from the file sharing service and the ensuing controversy and lawsuit from a number of artists and record labels forced the site to shut down in 2001 and ultimately file for bankruptcy in 2002.
