Description

This folder contains material related to the Russian cloning of VAX machines, specifically an incident when Supnik and Jesse Lipcon were briefed by an "unnamed government agency" that a diverted VAXen was being used in the Soviet military. The agents provided a printed slogan that they said had been placed on a VAX-11/780 that ran an SS20 missile complex. In Russian, the slogan says, "VAX: When You Care, Get the Best," but was translated by the agents as "VAX: When You Care Enough to Steal the Very Best." This translated slogan was engraved into the scribe line of the CVAX.

This folder contains that original printed slogan in Russian; a 1985 memo to Supnik requesting he discuss high-tech industry security with a representative from a U.S. intelligence agency; and Wall Street Journal articles on the cloning.
