Physical objectDescription
Berkeley's gift of the RAID-II prototype (known affectionately in the CS Department as "FRANKENRAID,") comprises two seven foot equipment racks. One rack contains 36 320MB IBM hard disk drives; the other contains the RAID controller circuitry. A third additional rack formed part of the system but, being identical to the first hard disk array, was not part of the donation. (The original system had over 100 disk drives.) .Readers interested in a full technical description can refer to the Department of Computer Science at UC - Berkeley Technical Report 92-705, Katz, R., et al.
