Description

The PDP-8 on a chip (a Harris 6120 microprocessor) was introduced in 1981. Its first use at Digital was in the DECMATE I word processor. Almost all of the single-chipPDP-8s at Digital are used in word processors. Present (1984) use is in the DECMATE III. Other manufacturers use the 8 chip for typesetting- machine tools- educationalapplications- etc. The 8 on a chip is the latest in a series of versions of the PDP-8- introduced in 1965 as a transistor machine. The first integrated-circuit version-the 8I- was introduced in 1968; the 8E- a medium-scale integrated (MSI) version- around 1970. 9/18/2001 File folder is empty
