Description

The Dover is sometimes incorrectly described as the world's first laser printer, but Starkweather built earlier laser printers. Gary Starkweather has said, "The Dover actually existed in 1976. The real question is what they mean by "came out." A Dover was certainly running in 1976 but actual multiple copies started coming into existence in 1977. Electro Optical Systems in Pasadena made multiple copies (beyond the three or so PARC built) for general consumption in the 1977-78 timeframe, about 35 in total. But yes, the Dover was running and operational at PARC in 1976. Glad to help if I can. Regards, Gary"
