Cherry wood base A fully functional disk drive built on a cherry wood base. The embedded servo for track seeking and track following removed many of the precision requirements for the base structure. The wooden pattern was originally intended for modelling the baseplate in epoxy. Using the pattern proved to be a faster and more economical approach. This was attached to a PDP-11 in 1975. Printed on front panel are, "digital RSL-1" and "digital equipment corporation. maynard, ma."
