The Computer History Museum welcomes donations that help
preserve computing history through its program of collections (preservation
and restoration), education (lecture series, access to archives and videos),
and public communication (tours, exhibits, outreach).
Donations may be made in the form of appreciated stock. Gifts of stocks
or bonds held for more than one year provide you with an income tax deduction
for their full fair market value and allow you to avoid the capital gains
tax you would have paid had you sold them yourself. The method of transferring
securities depends upon whether you hold the certificates yourself or in
a brokerage account.
Securities can be transferred directly to the Museum’s stock transfer
plan through Morgan Stanley. Contact Matthew Ives at MS,
650-853-4072 to assist you. Please, however, notify the Computer History
Museum independently so that we can be sure this transaction is completed.
