Welcome to the IT Corporate Histories Project website. You don't have to register to view the materials in the collection. You do need to register if you have stories, anecdotes, memoirs or materials from your files to contribute to the collection for any of the companies we are covering. The purpose of this site is to make it easy for people who were affiliated with these companies to preserve these very important histories, so we welcome any contributions you can make and thank you for your help. There are several steps involved in registering for this site. First you will be asked to agree to the terms of a release agreement that will authorize the IT Corporate Histories Project and the Computer History Museum to make the information you provide a part of a permanent archive of industry history. Then you will be asked to set up your username and password and provide us with a short personal profile. You may select any username that will be easy for you to remember but for your profile we will ask you to provide your real name in order to identify the source of the information you provide. It is part of the historical record for the company to which you are contributing information and will be displayed to viewers of that information. The contact information that you provide in the profile, however, is not public information and won't be released to anyone without your permission. Next you will be asked to select a company to register for and provide a short biography identifying your affiliation with the company. This, too, is part of the historical record and will be displayed to viewers. The final step will be to select your preference for being notified when new information is added to the company you have registered for. You can ask to be notified of all new and changed materials or just new materials, notified only of comments added to materials you've submitted, or not to be notified at all. If you want to register for more than one company, you will be able to do that from your User Profile page once you have been set up in the system. When you are ready to begin, click on Continue. |
