Chief Innovator at PayNearMe, Member of Apple Newton design team
Steve Capps is currently the chief innovator at PayNearMe, an electronic cash exchange network. As an expert in user interface design, he is relentless about making products and services easy to use. He was a member of the original Macintosh team and an Apple Fellow. Capps was also one of the leaders of the Apple Newton team and served as the overall designer of Newton’s user interface. In between the Mac and Newton efforts, Capps independently designed electronic toys and music software. He created award-winning products such as Studio Session, Jam Session, SoundEdit, Jaminator, and others. Capps is named on 65+ patents that span toys, musical instruments, hardware, and software. He has worked at personal computer giants Microsoft, Apple, and Xerox. At Microsoft, he served as an architect concentrating on user interfaces. Capps contributed to many versions of the Internet Explorer, served as a major designer for MSN Explorer, and most recently, worked on the UI portions of the .NET initiative. Capps holds a BS degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
