Bill Gunning
Biography
 

1941: BA in physics, UCLA. Joined Douglas Aircraft, Santa Monica,
in the flight test lab.
 
1947-1954: Transferred to Project RAND, at Douglas.  It later became
The RAND Corporation. Worked on REAC analog computer modifications.
JOHNNIAC design engineer.
 
1954-1956: International Telemeter corp, Santa Monica Ca.  CATV system
development.
 
1956-1958: Beckman Instruments, Fullerton Ca. Systems Division.
 
1958-1970: Co-founder of Epsco-West, which later became Astrodata, Inc,
Anaheim Ca. Designed custom computer-controlled data acquisition
systems and hybrid (interconnected analog and digital) computer systems
for aerospace and communication applications.
 
1970-1988: Xerox PARC, Systems Division. Worked with DEC and Intel
partners on technical specifications for the original Ethernet
standard. Helped develop revised versions of Ethernet in a project
that was split off by Xerox as Synoptics, now Bay Networks.
 
1988: Retired. I have continued with PARC as part-time consultant on
digital signal integrity problems. Developed GTL for CMOS ASIC high
speed interconnect. Participated in the joint development (Xerox and
Sun Microsystems) of a multiprocessor server product.
