Jurassic Software: A Look Back at The Beginnings of Consumer Software

Cook is co-founder and Chairman of the Executive Committee of Intuit Inc. Intuit is a continuing high tech success: Intuit's revenue grew 18% and pro forma net income rose 30% in the fiscal 2002. Intuit's stock price is 3 times higher than it was 5 years ago, outperforming the likes of Dell, Microsoft, Intel, and Walmart over the last five years.

Intuit's market-leading products such as Quicken, QuickBooks and TurboTax hold shares of sales ranging between 70% and 85%. Intuit is also the leader in web-based service businesses such as online tax prep (turbotax.com), self-service payroll, and online accounting (QuickBooks Online Edition).

Before founding Intuit, Cook managed consulting assignments for Bain & Company, a corporate strategy consulting firm. Prior to Bain, Cook worked for Procter and Gamble, in various marketing positions, including Brand Manager, for four years.

Cook is a member of the Boards of Directors of eBay, Procter & Gamble, the Asia Foundation, and the Harvard Business School Board of Visitors.

Cook was raised in La Canada, a Los Angeles suburb. He earned an MBA from Harvard University and Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and economics from the University of Southern California, Phi Beta Kappa. When not working at Intuit's Mountain View, California headquarters, Cook spends time with his children, bicycle riding, skiing, horseback riding, and reading history.
