Storage Special Interest Group (Storage SIG)

In November, 2003, the museum's Storage Committee was formed, with members who were experienced participants in disk drive, tape drive and storage system companies, as well as significant independent industry consultants. The activities of the Storage Committee have included numerous videotaped oral history sessions with data storage industry pioneers and compiling detailed information on significant events in the development of data storage products.

In August, 2007, the active participants in the Storage Committee's activities agreed to reorganize into the museum's Storage Special Interest Group, consisting of a new set of Working Groups. Individual Working Groups were established for Hard Disk Drives, Tape Drives, Optical Disk Drives and Storage Systems, plus a special group to concentrate on events in Japan. Each Working Group conducts appropriate activities for its product area, including oral history sessions and development of significant events timelines. In addition, the Storage SIG Steering Committee overviews and coordinates all of the Storage SIG's activities.
