Summary

The Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California, seeks an experienced professional to serve as its Director of Education. This is an exciting opportunity to create educational programs for the leading museum in the world dedicated to exploring the computing revolution and its impact on the human experience.  

Responsibilities

The candidate will be responsible for choosing and implementing the highest-impact educational programs.  This will include developing programs to support the new  “Timeline of Computing History” physical and web-based exhibits to open in late 2009, as well as  curricula development, school outreach, and development of web resources and media.  The successful individual will engage with regional education systems and take the lead in creating high school, university, and adult learning programs, including tools for both students and teachers, that can be used worldwide.

Qualifications

  • Relevant teaching and curriculum development or equivalent experience in a museum or other informal instructional setting
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver engaging, integrated educational experiences
  • Experience in creating programs to support and interpret exhibitions directed toward a broad public audience
  • Experience using the web as an education platform
  • Master's degree in education, museum studies or related field
  • Minimum five years education and/or museum experience

The successful candidate will be energetic and enthusiastic, with proven leadership and project and people management abilities, as well as strong organizational, written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
