TBD - As suggested by Hugh McGuire, this section would highlight the 1620's place in history. What was significant about the machine?

Quoting Hugh:

"Tell what was the situation for computing before this machine, then what people did with this machine, and what subsequent technological (or other?) developments this machine enabled to happen. I would expect "History: Narrative" to be rather focused on the machine whereas "Historical Significance" would involve broader subjects such as the nationwide environment for computing, needs or desires for computers (e.g. in universities), miscellaneous significant (mathematical discovery? industrial development? military?) jobs done by the machine, and what technological developments this machine influenced, including design of subsequent machines considering experience with this machine."
