Max Mathews began his career with a ScD in electrical engineering, composing music on the IBM 704 in his spare time at Bell Laboratories. A pioneer of early computer-generated music, Mathews is now a Professor Emeritus at Stanford University's Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics.
