After Dark screen savers

A small industry provided “screen savers” to prevent static images from being burned onto the screen. After Dark’s most familiar version featured flying toasters, but Star Trek and The Simpsons themes also sold well.

Success + Success: Software Applications and Windows

The growing dominance of PCs and Windows encouraged programmers and entrepreneurs to develop software designed for that combination. The mushrooming library of programs in turn encouraged more people to choose Windows…which encouraged more companies to write programs for Windows.

This impromptu software-hardware partnership became a self-perpetuating cycle of success.

CorelDRAW!

CorelDRAW, a vector-based illustration program for Microsoft Windows, was popular with graphic designers and animators. It was used to create the characters for Comedy Central’s “South Park."
