While in England, Harnack was an intern at the University of Oxford's Ashmolean Museum and worked on a collection of 15th to 19th century portrait miniatures.

In his spare time, Harnack enjoys computer games, cooking, following professional baseball, and performing minor maintenance on his 1969 Chevrolet Caprice.
