John F. Shoch is a general partner at Alloy Ventures, a venture capital firm he co-founded in 1996, focused on information technology and the life sciences.
In 1985 he became a general partner at Asset Management Company, a venture capital firm located in Palo Alto, Calif. From 1982 to 1985 he served as president of the Office Systems Division of Xerox. From 1980 to 1982 he served as assistant to the president of the Xerox Corporation and director of the Corporate Policy Committee. Previously, he was part of the research staff at the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center. His research interests included programming languages, local computer networks (such as the Ethernet), internetwork protocols, packet radio, "worm" programs and other aspects of distributed systems.
Shoch has served on the board of directors of Remedy Corporation, Red Brick Systems, Conductus and a number of private high-tech firms. In addition, he has taught at Stanford University, and is a member of the ACM and the IEEE.
He received a B.A. in political science, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in computer science from Stanford University.
