Guest Services Volunteers

Volunteers are an integral part of each visitor's Museum experience. During Public Tour hours volunteers staff the Museum Gift Shop, Lobby Reception Area, and provide docent lead tours of the Visible Storage Exhibit.

Greeters - During Public Tours Greeters welcome Museum visitors and provide them with a basic introduction to the Museum and its exhibits. They assist with Museum Gift Shop sales and assist docents with documenting the number of visitors who have taken either a docent lead or self-guided tour and in gathering visitor feedback. Greeters may also be called upon to assist the Museum's Events Department in staffing Rental and Special events that include tours of the Museum's exhibits. All volunteers interested in becoming a greeter must complete the beginner session of the Docent/Greeter Training. Greeters are asked to make a minimum one year volunteer commitment. Each greeter is also asked to volunteer a minimum of 8 hours each month.

Docents - During Public hours Docents conduct tours of the Visible Storage Exhibit and introduce visitors to the Museum's other exhibits. Docents may also be called upon to assist the Museum's Events Department in staffing Rental and Special events that include tours of the Museum's exhibits. All volunteers interested in becoming a docent must complete both the beginner and advanced sessions of the Docent/Greeter Training. Docents are asked to make a minimum one year volunteer commitment. Each docent is also asked to volunteer a minimum of 8 hours each month.
