"This lecture gives an overview of the RISC System/6000 family of workstations and servers. Starting with its positioning within the IBM product line and a brief discussion of the trends and directions in the workstation business areas, a description is given of the major engineering design points for each of the machines. Following this he presents a detailed discussion of the IBM Second Generation RISC goals and concepts, and a discussion of how these goals were implemented in the POWER architecture, including mention of the performance results against industry standard benchmarks. Details are also presented on other relevant system components."
