Item Details

Description
Papers, slides and correspondence related to Robert Spinrad's work at Xerox PARC. Includes: * Bob Spinrad’s lab notebooks for his tube-based instrumentation designs at Brookhaven Labs. * A programming/ISA manual for “Merlin,” Brookhaven's 1960 tube-based computer based on Los Alamos’s Maniac-II. * A Maniac-II ISA manual. * Monthly compendium/“chronologies” of key internal SDS/XDS management memos and financial reports from ’69-’72. * This includes technical proposals for a blank-sheet XDS “Gemini" project, a valiant but failed attempt to architect a small business computer. (It’s sad to read some of the XDS internal memos as the ship sinks… A short memo from Max Palesky compelling folks to neaten up the place for Xerox's CEO visit.) * A 14-page summary of SDS/XDS's history. * Monthly compendium/“chronologies” of key internal PARC memos mostly to and from Bob’s office. * Yearly PARC accomplishments and budget reports. * Tables of Altos at PARC by serial numbers/owners, ASD Alto build-out cost memos, program costs, etc. * Xerox corporate planning documents, etc. * ITG SDD’s 1977 Long Range Plan, Final Submission, 9 May 1977. A tome! * Memos reflecting concerns about D0 development problems/issues. * VHS tapes of Bob’s talks, plus others (Metcalfe 20th Ethernet celebration, etc.) * Personnel files.
