Association of Data Processing Service Organizations (ADAPSO) reunion workshop : telecommunications issues

A group of former ADAPSO members involved in timesharing and remote processing services companies discussed the characteristics of the telecommunications industry in the 1960s and how it has changed since then. They identified the major telecommunications companies at the time and what the significant issues were in the U.S. and internationally in terms of access to the communications services which they needed. They talked about the relationship between AT&T and ADAPSO and the impact that ADAPSO had on federal regulatory issues. They summarized how the evolution of communications systems, including the creation of the Internet, has significantly changed the pricing structure for both the providers and users of telecommunications; and they discussed security and privacy issues. Finally they concluded by stating that the industry has moved from a monopolistic structure to one that is much more open and available.
