These are the papers of A. John Esserian, who founded Charecogn Systems, Inc. and Second Dimension Data, Inc. Both these companies were involved in barcoding technology. Charecogn Systems submitted a proposal for a circular barcode to the Universal Product Code (UPC) barcode competition in 1973-1974. These papers include documents surrounding the establishment of the UPC, patents, and corporate records for the aforementioned corporations.
