The carriage return is tied to the base unit with a piece of copper wire and there is a piece of wood inserted between the carriage and the base unit on the left side. The carriage can only move one or two inches to the left and right. This typewriter has been utilized as part of the IBM 1620 Restoration Project at CHM.
