Personal computer (PC) software workshop : marketing : pricing and packaging
Participants discussed how early pricing was determined for PC software and Seymour Rubinstein of MicroPro discussed how the standard $495 software price came about. Pricing for software that was bundled with hardware and product upgrade pricing are also covered. Changes in the retail channel over time are identified along with how those changes affected how the software vendors sold their products, including the use of VARs. Finally, software product packaging was discussed and how that affected product placement in retail stores.
